1 - Unpaid Work Experience Programme
The Work Experience programme is for students who want to experience working in a British business environment. The combined benefit of English skills, international experience and exposure to other business cultures can help students advance their career at home.
Students begin the programme with a General or Business English course. English ability, education, experience and interests are then taken into account when matching students with a suitable company. Students need to send us:
- Their curriculum vitae
- A personal statement to explain why they want to be on the programme, what they hope to achieve and explain past work experience
Placements are available in fields such as:
- Marketing,
- Law
- Finance
- Insurance
- Media
- Public relations
- Travel & tourism
- Architecture
- Hotel & catering
UCLES Certification
Students may apply to have their Work Experience recognised with a University of Cambridge International Examinations Certificate of Work Experience for an additional fee. Students would be entered for this assessment through an accredited placement provider.
Course Requirements
- Upper intermediate level of English
- Required number of weeks of English Course
- Relevant documentation i.e.: student visa
The Work Experience Programme is designed to:
- Provide learning and working experience within an English business culture.
- Improve existing English language skills within a professional environment.
- Provide individuals with the means to improve upon business language, interpersonal communication skills and specific vocational vocabulary.
- Assist undergraduates with placements to meet academic requirements specified by universities and colleges.
All interns are offered roles that reflect their capabilities and their level of English. They are expected to undertake all tasks asked of them in a professional manner. The aim of the programme is to gain work experience, not to be trained for a specific job.
Requirements
All students must take a minimum of 4 weeks of General or Business English before the Work Experience programme. Students from EU and EEA countries may then do a 12-week or longer internship. Non-EU students may not work for longer than their English course.
